Duff McKagan is an American vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. McKagan played bass for the well-known heavy rock band Guns N’ Roses for twelve years. After their 2016 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he rejoined the band.

How did Duff McKagan start his Professional Career?

In 1979, McKagan founded the Vains, a punk band. After responding to a newspaper advertisement, he moved to Los Angeles in 1983 and formed the band Road Crew with future Guns N’ Roses bandmates Slash and Steven Adler.

A few years later, when he joined as the bassist, Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, Tracii Guns, and Rod Gardner were all members of the new band Gun N’ Roses alongside him. In 1985, the ensemble performed its first concert, and in 1987, they released their debut album.

Guns N’ Roses also published the albums “G N’ R Lies,” “Use Your Illusion I,” “Use Your Illusion II,” and “The Spaghetti Incident” during McKagan’s tenure with the band.

In 1995, he co-founded the rock supergroup Neurotic Outsiders with Steve Jones, John Taylor, and Matt Sorum. The group’s self-titled album was published the following year.

In 1993, McKagan released his début album titled “Believe in Me.” Together with Dez Cada, he organized an album tour and formed the group Loaded. The group’s discography consists of “Episode 1999: Live,” “Dark Days,” “Sick,” and “The Taking.”

He joined Alice in Chains in 2006 and Jane’s Addiction in 2010. Two years later, he went on tour with the Rock ‘n’ Roll All-Stars. In 2014, he performed alongside Gun N’ Roses.
