Jay B Of GOT7 Discussed How He Obtained Trademark Rights

GOT7

GOT7 has been in the news after returning to the K-pop music industry in 2021, following a separation from their former agency JYP Entertainment (JYPE). In 2022, the boys debuted new music in the form of an eponymous mini-album. In a recent interview with Sudsapda Magazine, group leader Jay B discussed the company’s trademark acquisition procedure.

As said by Jay B:

“I did not accomplish anything truly remarkable.”

In addition, he was asked about his thoughts on JYP Entertainment’s CEO Jung Wook and how he thinks now that the trademark rights have been legally acquired.

Jay B of GOT7 discusses trademark rights and offers gratitude to the CEO of JYP Entertainment.

In May of 2022, GOT7 became the first K-pop boy group to leave one of the industry’s main music labels and become a completely independent K-pop boy group. Jay B, the group’s leader, was important in carrying out the ownership transfer procedure.

Given the difficulty of acquiring trademark rights, his perseverance and dedication to his organization earned him praise from millions of fans.

Jay B of GOT7 recently spoke with Sudsapda magazine about the challenges he faced along the process, stating that getting the rights to the group’s units was the most difficult assignment.

“The trademark rights of the units are problematic. That was not tough for the Korean-residing members. Unfortunately, several of our members do not reside in Korea.”

According to Jay B, GOT7 members Mark Tuan, BamBam, and Jackson Wang, who resided or frequently traveled abroad, were obliged to sign for the procedure. As a result, he had to wait for their arrival in Korea.

He declared:

“So, I attempted to determine how to collect their signatures, but in the end, I had to wait for them to visit Korea before obtaining their signatures. This required a little more time.”

Jay B then spoke openly about Jung Wook, the CEO of JYP Entertainment (JYPE). According to Jay B, when the group returned as a self-owned group in May 2022, Jung Wook and business founder J.Y. Park transferred the members’ rights to the group without hesitation.

“No matter how much I consider it, the fact that JYP CEO Jung Wook was willing to waive trademark rights was a crucial aspect. After that, I meticulously prepared the papers. As it had been significantly delayed, I felt terrible for CEO Jung Wook.”

Jay B thanked the organization for its positive response to the entire process after apologizing to JYPE’s CEO for the delay in the signing procedure. His attorney forewarned him that obtaining trademark rights is typically not as simple as this.

Jay B made care to thank Jung Wook and J.Y. Park at his May 2022 comeback press conference when he was asked about the trademark procedure. In the meantime, the leader of GOT7 has transferred the group’s trademark rights to his own company, 528Hz.

These include the rights to light sticks, record productions, live performances, fan signs, and meet-and-greets. Also, it has been uncovered that Jay B acquired the rights to the group’s unit names, which he shares with his group mates.
