All You Need to Know About Gabby Douglas

Gabby Douglas

Gabby Douglas made history at the London Olympics in 2012 by becoming the first African American to win the gold medal in the all-around competition. Douglas’ life narrative served as the basis for the 2014 biopic The Gabrielle Douglas Story and the reality TV program Douglas Family Gold.

In the Final Five, the United States’ gold-winning Olympic team, Douglas once again shone. At the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, Gabby was a member of the winning American teams.

Gabby has been noticeably absent from the gymnastics spotlight ever since her victory in 2016. Discover what Gabby Douglas is doing right now by reading on.

At the 2016 Summer Olympics, Gabby Douglas led the Final Five to Olympic Gold, marking her last significant gymnastics victory. Douglas looked to move back from competitive gymnastics after that significant victory. She skipped the US Olympic Trials for the Olympics in Tokyo.

Douglas gave up gymnastics to pursue a career in modeling and television. Gabby won’t be present on catwalks, though. Her modeling assignments frequently involve working with brands. For instance, she shared a picture from a photoshoot promoting Crook and Marker cocktails at the beginning of July 2021. Had a great day filming with some of the kindest individuals, wrote Gabby.

Gabby reportedly gave up competitive Gymnastics and moved on to Modeling

Douglas won The Masked Dancer in February 2021 after defeating Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Mackenzie Ziegler. With her final performance of Alicia Keys’ Girl On Fire, Gabby made an impression. As the reality of her accomplishment set in, Gabby’s cheeks began to well up with tears. On February 18, 2021, Gabby posted a picture from The Masked Singer on Instagram with the caption:

“Being a part of the show was a great honor. Every single moment was wonderful. You made it about family, heart, passion, joy, and character, and I liked that. I will always treasure this experience.”

Although Gabby hasn’t formally stopped competing in gymnastics, all indications are that her days as a gymnast are done. She will support the American team competing in the Tokyo Olympics since she still loves the sport. Gabby expressed her admiration for the athletes who continued training despite the pandemic in an interview with NewsNation Now. She uttered:

This is a lot. And what these athletes are going through is something I can only understand. Because I’ve never trained during a pandemic, I’ve been assuring individuals that they have my utmost respect. In a pandemic, I’ve never participated in an event. I can only speculate as to how that is. And everyone will feel more strain and stress as a result.

Gabby Douglas won gold in the 2016 Olympics

The five members of the US squad who won the 2016 Olympics dubbed themselves the Final Five. The Final Five would be the final US team created while Marta Karolyi served as national team coordinator of USA Gymnastics, therefore they chose the name to reflect the fact that it would be the final time that gymnastics teams would consist of five athletes.

The US team left Rio with pride, but a year later, US gymnastics would reach historically low points. One of the Final Five, Aly Raisman, accused former USA Gymnastics national team doctor Larry Nassar of sexual assault in an emotional interview with 60 Minutes. Raisman added her name to a list of at least 265 other gymnasts who have accused Nassar of sexual assault.

When gymnasts banded together to end a terrible evil in the sport, Gabby said something that didn’t appear to fit with the cause. In response to a tweet by Raisman asserting that women should be free to dress however they feel most comfortable, Gabby wrote:

“However, it is our duty as women to conduct themselves elegantly and respectfully. Provocative or sexually suggestive clothing attracts the wrong crowd.”

Outrage was stirred by Douglas’ tweet. Simone Biles, another Final Five contestant, criticized her, tweeting in reaction, “Shocks me that I’m seeing this yet it doesn’t surprise me. Since I was your teammate, I expected more from you and to support her, so seeing this makes me cry.

Later, Gabby claimed that she was misunderstood and wasn’t blaming the victim. But by then, the harm had already been done. Whether Gabby made amends with her former comrades is unknown.
