Redford attempts to keep a low profile in his private life. Yet, he maintains a harmonious relationship with his longstanding wife, the German-born multimedia environmental artist Sibylle Szaggars. Somewhere through the 1990s, the pair met and began dating in 1996.
After thirteen years of dating, they tied the knot in July 2009 in Hamburg, Germany. With fewer than thirty guests in attendance, the church wedding was a tiny affair. In Germany, Frank Engelbrecht, a protestant minister, presided at the wedding.
“The occasion was pretty significant to them,” he later told The Telegraph.
Incidentally, this was the second wedding for Redford and his wife. The details of his partner’s previous relationship and ex-husband have never been made public, but Redford’s previous marriage has been.
Robert Redford’s First Marriage and Wife
Redford was initially married to Lola Van Wagenen. After a vacation to France, he met the American historian in Los Angeles in the late 1950s. The pair had an instantaneous connection and were married on September 12, 1958.
Bishop Ray W. Gwilliam performed their wedding, which was held in Wagenen’s family home. The highlights of the day were the four-tiered wedding cake and the golden candles on the serving tables.
After their wedding, the couple welcomed four children into their household. As Redford’s career flourished, though, the marriage steadily deteriorated.
In 1985, as a result, the couple ended their 27-year marriage. They both continued with their lives. Wagenen fell in love with George Burrill while Redford married his present wife, twenty years his junior. They wed in 2002 and have remained together ever since then.
The offspring of Robert Redford
With his second marriage, Redford has no children. He had four children during his first marriage, however. In 1959, the seasoned actor’s first child with his first wife, Scott Anthony Redford, was born.
Two-month-old Scott tragically died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. After the disaster, the couple had three children: a son and two daughters. Their oldest daughter, Shauna Jean, was born in 1960.
In 1962, James, affectionately known as Jamie, joined the family, while their youngest daughter, Amy Hart, was born in 1970. Shauna achieved success as an artist, whilst Amy followed in her father’s footsteps.
She followed an acting career and appeared in several films and television series, including Sex and the City, Maid in Manhattan, and Sunshine Cleaning.
James Redford, the son of Redford, is a documentary filmmaker. In 2005, he also founded The Redford Center as an environmental activist.
On October 16, 2020, he passed away due to bile-duct cancer in his liver.

Jamie was a dedicated son, a dedicated father, and a dedicated spouse. Kyle, Jamie’s wife, and Lena and Dylan, their children, outlived him.
