A 13-year-old boy named Anthony Stinson was struck by a Suffolk County Patrol vehicle in Shirley on Saturday, September 9, 2023. The teen’s mother, Claudia, subsequently told News12 that her son passed away on Monday as a result of his wounds.
Stephanie Byrnes, who had met Anthony when camping with her a few years prior, set up a GoFundMe page for the 13-year-old as word of Anthony Stinson’s passing spread. The fundraiser has raised $1,271 from 32 donors as of this writing, with a target of $2,000 raised.
On Saturday night, Stinson was struck by a police patrol car while riding his bicycle, leaving him with serious injuries. The crash happened close to the intersection of Adobe Drive and William Floyd Parkway, according to News12.

A GoFundMe fundraising page has been set up to help the Stinson family with the costs of Anthony’s funeral and other associated expenses in order to support them during this trying time. The fundraiser page was made by Anthony’s mother Claudia’s former employee, Dana Glaber.
On the GoFundMe page, Glaber stated, “Anthony was Claudia’s only child, and she desperately needs all of our help and prayers right now.” “All contributions will be made directly to Claudia Stinson, his mother, to help with any costs she may have as a result of this tragedy.”
By Tuesday at 9 p.m., the GoFundMe effort had brought in almost $10,000. There have been over 220 presents and kind comments received.
The crash is still under investigation.
In order to shed light on the collision, Suffolk County officials revealed that the patrol car’s driver had activated its lights and siren. It looked like they were answering an emergency call. Detectives said that when the policeman swerved to save the child, he ended up colliding with three other cars.
