Lesser, Anton Biography
Anton Lesser was raised by his architect father and housewife mother in Birmingham as an only child. With his father’s encouragement, Anton focused on his studies while attending Moseley Grammar School.
There, he opted not to play sports with his classmates in favor of reading and watching movies. He enrolled in school in 1970, went to the University of Liverpool, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree there in 1974.
He became interested in playing during his second year there, and in 1975 he applied to the renowned Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), from which he graduated in 1977 with a master’s degree in theater and the Bancroft Gold Medal as the year’s most promising actor.

As a result of his recording of Great Expectations, he received a Talkie Award. Other works include Paradise Lost by John Milton and Homer as well as more recent books by Philip Pullman and Robert Harris (Fatherland).
Lesser spent two months in 2013 as a regular cast member in Ambridge Extra, a BBC Radio 4 Extra spin-off of the BBC Radio 4 serial The Archers.
In 2015, Lesser was acknowledged as a patron of the Chapel Lane Theatre Company in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England.
Lesser was nominated for a British Academy Television Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Thomas More in the BBC miniseries Wolf Hall.

In his early thirties, Anton married Madeleine Lesser; the two have kept their wedding date a mystery. Online reports state that the pair had been dating for approximately ten years prior to getting married.
After the wedding, Madeleine gave birth to their son Harry, and two years later, to their daughter Lily. Lily has already started acting, and she and Anton have appeared together in the TV shows “Endeavour” and “Wolf Hall.”
