English goth rock band Bauhaus recently postponed their North American tour. A spokeswoman stated that the time was postponed as a result of vocalist Peter Murphy visiting a treatment facility to address his health.
The itinerary was for the trip to start on September 6 in Toronto and finish on September 23 in Atlanta. The tour was to be Bauhaus’ first scheduled outing in 16 years.
After a string of critically lauded reunion shows across continents, Peter Murphy will enroll in a rehabilitation facility to look at his health and well-being.
The official added that no other details about Murphy’s condition were given. Murphy had a heart attack in 2019, however, he afterward claimed to be fully recovered.
The band began touring in late 2021, and they performed at the Cruel World festival in Pasadena, California, in May 2022. In addition, they played several West Coast shows that month. They were followed by several European concerts in June and August. On August 27, they gave their most recent performance in Portugal.
New York, Philadelphia, Washington (DC), Boston, New Haven (CT), Detroit, St. Paul, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, and Denver were among the cities on the Bauhaus North American tour that was postponed.
At New York’s Radio City Music Hall, it was supposed to come to an end on New Year’s Eve. Also, the group was scheduled to play at Riot Fest on September 16 and 18. Attendees who purchased tickets locally can get their money back.
The goth rock group premiered a new song earlier this year after 14 years. The song, titled Drink the New Wine, was created using the “exquisite corpse” method, which allows creators to contribute audio components but not see the whole product until the very end.
“Bauhaus has successfully used this tactic in the past.” The words “Le cadaver exquis board le vin nouvelle” was part of the original Cadavre exquis artwork by André Breton, Marcel Duchamp, Jacques Prévert, and Yves Tanguy and served as the inspiration for the title.
Peter Murphy, Daniel Ash, Kevin Haskins, and David J. comprise the band’s current line-up. Bauhaus, a pioneer of Goth rock, formed in 1978 and was recognized for its gloomy aesthetic and depressing songs.
They also combined several genres, including funk, glam rock, psychedelic, and dub. Bela Lugosi’s Dead, the band’s debut single, which is recognized as one of the precursors to gothic rock music, was released in 1979.
One of the earliest gothic rock albums is largely acknowledged as being their debut, In the Flat Field. In 1981, they released Mask, their second album. The Sky’s Gone Out, the third album by the group, was commercially successful and peaked at No. 4 on the UK Albums Chart in 1982.
The band’s solo performance of David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust helped them reach No. 15 on the Singles Chart that year. In 1983, when Murphy was sick, there were divisions within the group. The outcome was that on July 5, 1983, the group split apart. The band eventually got back together for a tour in 1998, from 2005 to 2008, and finally in 2019.
