Paul Rubenfeld was born in Peekskill, New York on August 27, 1952. Judy Reubens, his mother, was an elementary school teacher, and Milton Reubens, his father, was a civilian pilot for both the US Air Force and the Royal Air Force. They relocated to Sarasota, Florida, and opened a lamp store.
In Florida, the 64-year-old attended Sarasota High School. He went on to study at Boston University and the California Institute of the Arts. Reubens is the middle child of three; his younger brother, Luke Rubenfeld, is a dog trainer, and his younger sister, Abby Rubenfeld, is an attorney.
She is also the legal director of the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, a national civil rights group for gay and lesbian people.
Arrested Multiple Times
Reubens is no stranger to the legal system. He’s been arrested multiple times. When he was 18, he had his first run-in with the law. He was detained on accusations of possessing marijuana.
In 1983, he was arrested for “loitering and prowling” in front of an adult bookstore. Because the accusations were ultimately withdrawn, the incident had little impact.
Paul’s career suffered a severe setback in 1991. He was captured after a police raid at Florida’s South Trail Cinema, an adult theater. After posting a $219 bond for indecent exposure to a sexual organ, he was released from the county jail.
He was arrested again in 2002 on a minor offense, 11 years later. Police uncovered materials in his residence that purported to represent child pornography.
He acknowledged responsibility by identifying indecent photographs in numerous collections and paying a $100 charge.
Paul consented to participate in a year-long treatment program and to register as a sex offender until the conclusion of his probation, even though he faced three years in prison. He was released after posting a $20,000 bond.
Paul Reubens’s Relationship
In 1989, the Buffy The Vampire Slayer actress married Chandi Heffner, the adopted daughter of late American heiress Doris Duke. They met for the first time in Hawaii. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Reubens said that they married in an unplanned “mock wedding ceremony” at dinner.
In the aftermath of his divorce, Reubens began dating TV personality Debi Mazar in 1993. She helped him re-enter the industry after his arrests. They were together for almost two years before ending their relationship peacefully.
Since then, Reubens has not been associated with anyone. He’s also been tight-lipped about his romantic situation, fueling LGBT speculations. The actor from The Blacklist, on the other hand, has kept mum on the subject.
His films and television shows, as well as his Net Worth
Paul Reubens grew up with a keen interest in humor and acting due to his proximity to the ‘Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus,’ (an American traveling circus business marketed as The Greatest Show on Earth).
At the age of 11, he began acting in local theaters and eventually joined The Groundlings, an improvisational comedy troupe. He created his renowned character, Pee-Wee Herman, during his time with the group.
He was able to gain HBO’s attention after running his own The Pee-Wee Herman Show at The Roxy Theatre in 1981. His episode aired as part of the channel On Location series. His persona quickly became a brand. He appeared in films such as Pee-Big Wee’s Holiday, and Comedy Bang! Bang!, Saturday Night Live, and the Broadway production of The Pee-Wee Herman Show.
He has a net worth of $5 million as a result of his more than 100 acting credits. In March 2021, HBO told Deadline that it planned to air a two-part documentary about Reubens and his popular character.
