The University of South Carolina-Beaufort (USCB) benefited greatly from the expertise and experience of Brett Borton, a communication specialist who served as an associate professor and program coordinator.

His broad range of abilities included teaching, research, higher education, statistics, and university teaching. His tenure at USCB began in January 2012 when he joined as an adjunct professor in the Department of Communication Studies, which had just been formed.

The institution hired him as a visiting assistant professor in August 2013 and then upgraded him to an assistant professor with tenure-track privileges in January 2014.

The position of Program Coordinator for Communication Studies was given to Brett in 2018 as a result of his outstanding performance and leadership skills. He was able to make a substantial impact on the program’s expansion and development because of this job.

Additionally, he received a promotion to Associate Professor with Tenure in August 2020, reiterating his position as a valued and significant contributor to the university’s faculty.

Everyone who knew Professor felt a great vacuum in their lives after his passing since he had been battling Alzheimer’s disease. But his memory will always be appreciated and adored.

One of his close friends, Lynn Reeves Dickerson, expressed her profound sadness at the untimely passing.

She told him about their recent meal in Savannah when Professor Borton had excitedly told him about a golfing vacation he was taking to Scotland.

Everyone was shocked to learn of his dying while on that vacation, and they were all saddened. Lynn acknowledged the Professor’s family’s great loss and expressed her love and support to Sara Johnson Borton, the Professor’s wife.

One of Professor Borton’s students, Rebecca Warth, was incredibly fortunate to have a few instructors who not only imparted information to them but also served as friends, mentors, and supporters of her academic achievement during her time in college.

Dr. Borton was a remarkable person who cared about his pupils’ development and well-being. The news of his death devastated Rebecca and the other people whose lives he had touched.

Professor, who was born and reared in Wilmington, Ohio, graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1981. After that, he started a fruitful career in integrated communications while working for two of the biggest resort and property development firms in the Southeast.

Additionally, he served as a consultant for several clients in the hospitality, real estate, and golf sectors.

In addition to his academic accomplishments, Dr. Borton, a respected associate professor at USC, is also recognized for his dedication to his family. He and Sara Johnson Borton exchanged vows on March 10, 1984, and ever since they have made the Lowcountry their home.

They have been blessed with three sons: Jarrett, Ian, and Evan Borton, and together they have created a lovely family. Ariana, his granddaughter, is also his.

David Richard Borton, the adored brother of Dr. Borton, died peacefully on May 24, 2023, at Ohio Living Cape May, following a protracted struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

The news was received with profound anguish since, regrettably, Brett tragically followed his brother to paradise a few days later.

The entire family is in grief over these two losses, and the flood of sincere tributes and condolences on social media has helped to ease their pain.
