Hougaard suffered a disaster in June 2023. He spent approximately 12 days in a Pretoria hospital coma. Respiratory pneumonia causes lung inflammation. The athlete was hospitalized the next morning after falling asleep on Friday, June 9th, due to sickness, according to Netwerk24.
