Bryant Gumbel’s Weight Loss: Cancer or Something Else?

Bryant Gumbel’s

American journalist Bryant Gumbel successfully hid his cancer diagnosis from the public for months by hiding surgery and the cause of his weight loss.

He exercised frequently and maintained his physique in shape, even in his 50s, so it wasn’t just the cancer that caused him to lose weight.

In December 2009, Bryant Gumbel, the anchor of Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, stunned his audience by disclosing a health issue. Gumbel had kept his cancer a secret from the Real Sports crew at HBO and from the audience. He had never missed a day of work and had always taped his monthly show on time.

Because of this, neither his coworkers nor his followers knew that he had cancer or that he had undergone surgery to remove the cancerous tumor in late 2008. The media figure came out about his condition just two months after the procedure, while watching the American talk show Live With Regis and Kelly the first week of December 2009.

In the episode, he had taken the position of Regis Philbin. Additionally, he was forced to disclose his surgery when Kelly urged him to dance behind the stage. The doctor, according to the native of Louisiana, sliced open his chest to remove the cancerous tumor and a piece of his lung.

He disclosed that he would need to undergo more treatments because the procedure had not eliminated all malignant cells. Many people hypothesized that his lung cancer was a long-term consequence of his chain-smoking, even though the main cause of lung cancer is unknown.

When the journalist was in his twenties, he smoked three packs a day. After being hired as an anchor at CBS News, he quit smoking.

Thankfully, the surgery was successful and most of the pathology turned out to be benign. A year after beginning the treatment, he was cancer-free, and he told People in December 2010 that he was pleased. Presenting the acclaimed HBO investigative series Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel, Bryant is now in good health.

He Lost Weight with Exercise

Before Bryant’s lung cancer had a substantial impact on his weight reduction, he had already maintained a healthy weight through exercise. Every day after concluding his shift at the SportsCenter, he exercised for an hour in the gym. He also spent an hour lifting weights every day. In 2003, he disclosed his weight loss of 55 pounds to The Washington Post.

Is Hilary Quinlan his wife?

The 72-year-old started dating Hilary Quinlan in 1997, after divorcing his first wife June Baranco. He has a daughter named Jillian Gumbel and a son named Bradley Christopher Gumbel from his first marriage.

Bryant proposed to Hilary in 2001, and the two later tied the knot in August 2002. On November 11, 2011, Jillian, his daughter, wed William Russell Robins.
