On Saturday, November 12, 2022, Nevada’s Senator Catherine Cortez Masto won re-election for a second term. In a close campaign, the 58-year-old senior senator for the Democratic Party defeated Adam Laxalt, a former attorney general of Nevada.

The current term of Cortez Masto began on January 3, 2017, the day she made history by becoming the country’s first Latina senator. In addition, the Democrat became the first woman elected as a US senator from Nevada after narrowly defeating Republican Joe Heck in the 2016 election.
