On November 23, 2022, Wednesday, a coming-of-age supernatural horror comedy TV series, will make its debut on Netflix.

It is based on the made-up character Wednesday Addams from Charles Addams’ animated series The Addams Family. Jenna Ortega, who has appeared in Jane the Virgin, Stuck in the Middle, You, and The Fallout, portrays the title role.

Her mother, Morticia Addams, will be portrayed by Catherine Zeta-Jones in the meanwhile. Zeta-Jones’ first endeavor with the streaming service is the series. In season two of Prodigal Son, she last appeared as resident physician Vivian Capshaw at Claremont Psychiatric Hospital (2019-2021).

The actress called Morticia “an iconic female figure” in a recent interview with the TV Times, but she emphasized that she wanted to give the part her unique touch.

She said she didn’t want to make Morticia look like a “Halloween-costumed caricature.” Given that Morticia had two children and was deeply in love with her husband, Zeta-Jones claimed that she wanted to explore the character’s innermost feelings. As stated by the actress:

We wanted to recreate Morticia’s original appearance rather than modernize her by dressing her in jeans.

I was so into it when I first put on the costume, hair, and makeup that I could have passed for Morticia at a gas station.
