In February, Anthony Ciccone succumbed to a mix of ailments and passed away at the age of 66. Finally, the cause of death of Madonna’s brother Anthony Ciccone has been determined.
The 66-year-old died of respiratory failure and throat cancer, according to a death certificate obtained by TMZ for a report on April 3.
According to the source, the cancer of the throat was oropharyngeal, which is frequently caused by smoking. It was stated in the document that smoking and tobacco contributed to his death. It further mentioned that he was cremated after his passing.
Anthony passed away last month, and his renowned younger sister and other family members took to social media to express their condolences and pay tribute to him.
“Thank you for expanding my mind as a young girl by introducing me to Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Buddhism, Taoism, Charles Bukowski, Richard Brautigan, Jack Kerouac, and out-of-the-box, expansive thinking. You sowed many vital seeds,” Madonna captioned a retro group photo on February 27.
At the time of his death, Anthony was reportedly alienated from his family, according to a source. Nonetheless, the mother of six remained there for him as much as she could.
“They were all there for him, and despite their estrangement, Madonna gave him all the support she could when he was willing to accept it,” a source told PEOPLE on February 26. “Family members, including Madonna, visited him while he was in a rehabilitation facility during his recent deterioration”
The public was initially informed of Anthony’s unexpected demise by Madonna’s brother-in-law, singer Joe Henry, who married Madonna’s sister Melanie Ciccone.
“Last evening, my brother-in-law Anthony Gerard Ciccone left this terrestrial plane,” Joe said on Instagram at the time.
“I’ve known him since I was 15 years old, at the spring of our lives in Michigan. As brother Dave Henry (who snapped this shot) comments here, Anthony was a complex individual; and, god knows, we did get twisted up occasionally, as true brothers can.
But, I liked him and understood him more than I was occasionally willing to admit. But the difficulty passes, and the family remains, with hands extended across the table.
Then, farewell, brother Anthony. I want to believe that the god your blessed mother (and I) believed in has her waiting for you there.
At least for today, no one will convince me to abandon this goal.” Joe posted a close-up black-and-white photograph of Anthony with the sad February 26 announcement.
