The American television star and comedian Chelsea Handler has ended her romance with Jo Koy. The 47-year-old actress announced on Instagram on July 18, just days before their one-year anniversary, that she and Koy are “taking a break” from their relationship.
She posted a video that the couple had created in preparation for their first wedding anniversary. It was followed by a lengthy essay in which she described how her relationship with him had irrevocably altered her life and “restored” her faith in men. She declared:
“Jo, you blew my mind, reignited my ambition to work hard and travel again, and reminded me of who I was and have always been; my feet have never been more firmly planted on the ground.”
Despite the breakup, Handler remained optimistic, believing that the end of their relationship signified a new beginning for both parties.
She also extended her best wishes to Koy and informed him that his “person is on the way.” In September 2021, Chelsea Handler disclosed her relationship with Jo Koy via Instagram.
How Chelsea Handler and Jo Koy Are Related
Jo Koy and Chelsea Handler were acquaintances for twenty years before they began dating. The two met on Chelsea Lately, a late-night E! talk show hosted by Chelsea Handler, where Koy was a frequent guest.
In June 2021, when Handler published footage of herself hanging out with Koy, it sparked dating rumors. Three months later, Handler announced on social media that she was in love with “the finest kind of person.”
Then, Handler shared a photo of the couple kissing beneath a streetlight, without identifying Koy at the time. In public and in interviews, the couple frequently expressed their appreciation for their love blooming into something genuine.
On Good Morning Washington, Koy discussed his relationship with his “awesome” Chelsea.
“I admire her, man.” She is extraordinary. She is the manager. There is nothing greater than falling in love with a longtime acquaintance. She has always had my back, and I have always had hers. It simply feels wonderful to finally find love, especially with someone I’ve always admired.”
Chelsea revealed at the December 2021 People’s Choice Awards that she initiated her relationship with Jo Koy because he was too “kind” to do so. She declared:
“Jo, what’s going on?” I finally inquired. “Have you developed a crush on me?” Then I went after him.”
