Max/Mahsa Malka is the creator and producer of the drama series, which stars Roderick Kabanga, Samuel Kujala, and Jeanerick Muyima, among others. The Finnish series, according to the OTT giant, is about two dancer brothers who want to open a dance club.

The streamer published the following summary:

“As time passes, their artistic drive collides with their new business and what it takes to succeed.” As they try to strike the perfect balance between staying afloat and pursuing their dreams, their fraternal friendship becomes strained.”

Dance Brothers were written by Malka, Reeta Ruotsalainen, and Leo Viirret and were described as “inspiring, bittersweet, and heartfelt” by Netflix. Taito Kawata will direct the next performance. The drama’s cast also includes Cristal Snow, Oksana Lommi, Lauri Lohi, Fanni Noroila, Josefiina Kotajärvi, Andrew Taua’i, and Pietari Kauppinen, in addition to the aforementioned actors.

Dance Brothers will present “the very best of Finnish creativity,” according to its founder

Dance Brothers appears to be the first Finnish series to make its global debut on the streaming service. According to Variety, the yet-to-be-released show was shot in the Finnish capital city of Helsinki in March of last year. Endemol Shine Finland’s first written production is a young adult drama series.

Malka described it to the publication as a “special project,” saying:

“(Dance Brothers is) a unique blend of high-quality drama, exciting dance, and a diverse cast of performers.” It is not only a unique and ground-breaking perspective on the dance genre, but it is also a unique endeavor…We’ve created a series that will showcase the best of Finnish ingenuity on all levels.”

Season one of the planned series will have ten episodes and will air from 3:01 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. EST, according to The Futon Critic. It is unclear whether all of the episodes will be available at the same time. Dance Brothers will also be broadcast on YLE, Finland’s public broadcaster, in addition to Netflix. Malka, the Head of Scripted Programs at Endemol Shine Finland, is also an executive producer, along with the company’s MD, Unne Sormunen.

Lars Blomgren, Banijay’s head of narrative, told Variety about the project:

“It’s an ambitious show with a unique story, so finding the right partners was critical, and Max Malka was able to do so thanks to her stellar track record.”

Despite the fact that the new Netflix series is a dance drama, the music department features some new faces. Elja Markkanen and Elias Salmenkallio, who were honored for their work on Into the Forest I Go (2017), have been commissioned to compose music for Dance Brothers.

Not to mention, among many others, Dance 100, the reality series Dance Monsters: A Dance Competition, the ballet drama Tiny Pretty Things, the junior competitive dance show Baby Ballroom, Dancing Queen (2018 docuseries about Alyssa Edwards aka Justin Dwayne Lee Johnson), and the five-episode series We Speak Dance.
