The Commonwealth’s Attorney for Albemarle County, James Hingeley, also said that a witness said the shooter, Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., seemed to be targeting at “particular persons” and “not aimlessly firing.”

Devin Chandler is the culprit who opened fire on five individuals late Sunday night, killing three of them. Jones and a few of his classmates had just returned to school after a field trip to see a play in Washington.
One of the three fatalities was Chandler, a 2020 Hough High School graduate and former Huntersville resident.
Devin Chandler, like the other two victims slain on Sunday night, Lavel Davis Jr. and D’Sean Perry, was a junior on the Virginia football team.
The Washington Post reports that Jones has been charged with three charges of second-degree murder, five counts of using a firearm while committing a crime, and two counts of malicious injury.

Stories about Chandler’s “infectious smile” and the zeal with which he lived his life were widely circulated around the country, from Virginia to North Carolina, after news of the fatal shooting broke on Monday.
The suspect formerly played football, and it was claimed that he had a gun.
Throughout the hunt, University Police disseminated a picture of Jones and cautioned people not to approach him because they thought he was “armed and dangerous.”
The Virginia Cavaliers’ 2018 football roster has the same picture as Jones’ profile. His profile states that he didn’t participate in any games that year.
In a phone call on Monday, his mother, Margo Ellis, whose name is on public records, stated that her son had resided with his grandma.
Devin Chandler was 16 years old, and she had no idea of his location or any other aggravating circumstances.
Officials claim that Jones had previously been brought to the notice of the school administration.
