The well-known gospel artist Diva Mafunga recently passed away in a car accident. He developed his love of music in the remote areas of Mount Darwin in the 1980s. While shearing the cattle, they would jam and play the banjo.

Early in the 1980s, he began to like music. In 2003, he wrote a few songs and submitted demo recordings to Gramma Records.

The management of Gramma Records turned him down, citing the fact that his music did not meet their requirements as the cause.

Later, he recorded at Shed Studios and released his debut single under his name.

Some of the albums he has released are Endai Naizvozvo, Fambai Nekutenda, Pfuurirai Mberi, Ndicharamba Ndichidana, Spiritual Battle, Zvangu Zvaita, and Ndatenda Ndapinda.

Diva Mafunga also recruited the late Oliver Mtukudzi to sing on his album “Ndatenda Ndapinda.” Both “Kutenda Kusina Mabasa” and “Munana Wekutanga” featured the famous person.

The seven-track Mafunga album, which included the two tracks, was recorded at Diamond Studios. Tuku sang and played the acoustic guitar for the two songs.

He also employed famous drummer Obert Gomba, a former member of Alick Macheso’s Orchestra Mberikwazvo, as a session musician for this same record.
