The largest energy company in Colombia, Ecopetrol, has announced that Felipe Bayon, its CEO, would step down on March 31, 2023. When socialist President Gustavo Petro pushes for a quicker conversion to renewable energy sources, Colombia’s largest firm and top oil producer—one of the Andean nation’s most significant exports—will see a shake-up as a result of Bayon’s departure.

The successor to Bayon will be chosen by the board of directors of the company, according to a statement from the company. The sector will be saddened by his departure, according to Sergio Guzman, the creator of the Colombia Risk Analysis, as tensions between the government and the established company grow.
