William Robert Jolyon Turnbull was an English television and radio broadcaster and journalist who worked in the industry for four decades.
He began his career working for radio stations such as Radio Clyde and BBC Radio 4’s Today.
He began his career as a journalist before moving to television, where he became one of the BBC’s most recognised faces.
In the early 1980s, he joined the BBC and rapidly became a mainstay on their Breakfast show, alongside other well-known broadcasters such as Sian Williams and Charlie Stayt.
Turnbull received approval for his program, ‘Bill Turnbull’s Sunday Morning,’ in 2001, and it was a huge success for six years.
For many years, he also hosted ‘Escape to the Country’ and was a regular on the BBC’s ‘Holiday’ show.

Former BBC Breakfast presenter Bill Turnbull’s daughter has stated that she will run this year’s London Marathon in his honor.
Flora Turnbull stated that she wants to raise prostate cancer awareness after her father died from the disease in August.
She has set up an online fundraising website for the group, which funds research, education, and help.
Mr. Turnbull’s beloved football club, Wycombe Wanderers, has also urged people to support the cause.

Bill announced his departure from BBC Breakfast in 2015, stating that he and Sarah want to relocate to Suffolk.
“I remember my daughter coming in, and I said, ‘Well, I’ve got to tell you – I’ve got Cancer,'” he recounted. And I had to contact my boys to tell them… we all sobbed.”
Bill, who died at the age of 66, admitted that the days after his diagnosis were “very dreadful,” calling them “perhaps the worst few days of his life.”
Bill was a wonderful husband and father to his three children; his family and friends will miss his constant ability to make people laugh, as well as the generosity and love he extended to everyone around him.
