For Several Reasons, Cameron Williams Is Leaving Channel Nine

Cameron Williams

Being a member of the best news team is an honor, and leaving it is sad, Cameron Williams wrote in the email he sent to Channel Nine to announce his resignation.

The 59-year-old news bulletin presenter just signed a three-year contract with the network, but three weeks before this writing, he abruptly left his regular position.

Fans eagerly anticipated Williams’ return to the airwaves, but all they heard was that he was leaving.

Williams Is Departing from Channel Nine

According to a source from The Daily Telegraph (via Dailymail), Williams informed staff members of his departure via email on March 23, 2022. He gave his “increasingly bad health” as the justification for leaving in the email.

The sports commentator emphasized that he had battled his health for years before that point and that it was not getting any better.

Director of News for Channel Nine Darren Wick sent a second email when Williams indicated he was leaving. Wick reiterated Williams’ resignation in his statement and explained his reasons for leaving to the channel crew.

Williams received congratulations for his dedication to Channel Nine throughout his career.

Cameron Williams’ Journalistic Career

The sports presenter was with the network for well over ten years, according to his biography on Channel Nine’s website.
The Australian native, who was born in Emerald, Queensland, started his media career in 1984 with a cadetship at Brisbane’s Courier-Mail.

Soon after that time, he changed to The Australian Newspaper, where he was assigned sports-related articles and stories.

He continued after that, joining the Seven Network in 1998. Cameron was mostly employed by Seven Network as a presenter. He did, however, also serve as the host of the 11 am show Sportsworld.

His 1992 Barcelona Olympics coverage, where he called Matt Ryan’s equestrian double gold for Australia, was perhaps the high point of his time working for the network.

He started working for Fox Sports in 1996, and during his five years there, he hosted the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, Wimbledon, the Winter Olympics, the NRL on FOX, the Dally M Awards, Super 12 Rugby, Wimbledon, and Fox Sports news.

Williams joined Channel Nine’s Today Show in January 2006 after serving a time as the breakfast announcer at 2HD Newcastle. Highlights of Williams’ tenure at Channel Nine include his reporting on horse racing, guest appearances on 60 Minutes, the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Not to mention, he and Karl Stefanovic from the Today Show covered one of Australia’s worst national tragedies, the Queensland flood crisis in 2010.
