He was drafted in the second round of the NBA draft in 1989 and spent his first eight seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers before moving on to the Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors, and New Jersey Nets.

In 1993, Robinson was named NBA Sixth Man of the Year and an All-Star in 1994. He was a basketball player for the UConn Huskies. Robinson began his collegiate career at the University of Connecticut in 1985, where he spent four seasons.

In 1988, the Huskies won the National Invitation Tournament, and Robinson was named to the all-tournament team. Robinson was later named to the All-Century men’s basketball team at UConn.
