1) Star Stowe was born Ellen Louise Stowe in Little Rock, Arkansas
Star was born on March 19, 1956, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Ellen Louise Stowe Milago and grew up in and around Arkansas, Louisiana, and Nevada. In the 1970s, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of becoming a professional dancer. Former Playboy Mansion Hostess Stella Tetenbaum described herself as having a “small-town girl aura” when she first arrived.
2) Stowe was designated Playmate in February 1977 after dating KISS vocalist Gene Simmons
Star Stowe was 18 years old when she met Gene Simmons at the Hotel Sahara in Las Vegas in 1975. Simmons was a member of the popular heavy metal band KISS. Soon after, the two began dating and went on to become a famous Hollywood couple.
Stowe was named Playmate of the Month in February 1977, and she was photographed wearing only a G-string and holding a Rickenbacker guitar in the issue’s centerfold. The issue, in which she was billed as the “original rockstar chick,” was themed around rock and roll and depicted her relationship with Simmons. At the time, she was at the pinnacle of her career, filming films and living in the Playboy house.
3) After her divorce from Simmons, she married and had a child
Star Stowe began using cocaine, which her then-boyfriend Gene Simmons was against. Furthermore, the Playboy home had strict s*x and narcotics policies. The couple split up as she tried to balance her love and professional life. She eventually left because Playboy “put a stain on her reputation,” and she struggled to find work in Los Angeles. According to reports, Stowe married Peter Maligo and had a son, Michael Maligo, in the early 1980s. The marriage, on the other hand, did not last long. She and her son moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1986.
4) Star Stowe struggled to make ends meet as an s*x worker in Florida
Stowe and her child moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1986 to pursue her dream of becoming an exotic dancer. However, due to the long hours, she worked in her demanding profession, she relocated her 6-year-old daughter to Little Rock, Arkansas, to live with her parents. She became addicted to drugs and began working as an s*x worker to support herself.
5) Stowe was discovered strangled behind a drugstore in March 1997
Star Stowe was last seen alive getting into a client’s car on March 15, 1997. She was discovered face-down and strangled behind a Coral Springs Eckerd pharmacy the next day. Despite a lack of evidence, her case was quickly linked to Sandra Kay Walters, another s*x worker found strangled to death. Following that, a string of similar killings occurred, with female victims discovered dead in and around the neighborhood. Her case hit a snag and is still unresolved to this day. Police believe it was the work of a serial killer.
