Scott Richard Hoying first gained notoriety as a member of the Cappella group Pentatonix. The ensemble has already received three Grammy awards for its widespread popularity. They have four songs on the Billboard Hot 100 and two number-one albums.
After winning The Sing-Off in 2011, Pentatonix secured a contract with a record label, but the label dropped the group because it didn’t think the group would be successful. Pentatonix benefited from the shift since the singers immediately built up a devoted following on social media.

Scott Hoying and his Superfruit partner Mitch Grassi are still the best of friends
Bubba, the family dog, is raised by Mark and Scott at their California home. Despite not releasing anything for a while, Scott and his Superfruit colleague Mitch Grassi are still the closest of friends.
Before Pentatonix and Superfruit existed, Scott and Mitch Grassi, his Superfruit partner, got to know one another. They met while performing Annie together in a theater in Arlington, Texas. Before coming together again to forge their enduring friendship, they were apart for a year and a half.
They didn’t become best friends right away, but they did have a special connection. For instance, even before they came out to each other, they both knew the other was a closeted person. Scott remarked to Billboard:
“Yeah! At the time, it was more of a subliminal feeling, but today I suppose we could explain why we felt so at ease around each other. I like to chat a lot. I am a talker. Additionally, Mitch is an excellent listener, which has always been advantageous for us.
Mitch continued, “I don’t know anyone as well as I know Scott. The pair established the YouTube channel Superfruit to honor their friendship. They observed that observers frequently remarked on the pair’s chemistry. So they decided to capitalize on their amusing friendship. Scott remarked to Billboard:
“We were just laughing and fooling around and having the finest time. We had people who would visit and congratulate us on our friendship and dynamic, saying things like, “I wish I had a friendship like yours.” And I believe that we simply decided that we wanted to display our personality to the world.
Superfruit currently has 2.46 million subscribers, however, Mitch and Scott haven’t posted anything to the channel in more than a year. Some of the reasons why the duo hasn’t produced a video in a while including the coronavirus outbreak and Scott moving out.
We still think their friendship is solid, though. They have been collaborating for Pentatonix, and there are no indications that they are no longer on good terms. Billboard was told by Mitch:
We don’t always express what we’re thinking, but since we are aware of what the other is thinking, there is never a shortage of words, catchphrases, and inside jokes, and we never stop laughing.
