John Leguizamo, the star of John Wick, expressed his disgust with American actor James Franco’s recent casting as Fidel Castro on Instagram on Friday, August 5. A screenshot of the Variety article in which the news was confirmed was included in the Instagram post.
Leguizamo’s post, however, received a lot of criticism because of his opinions regarding James Franco’s choice to play Fidel Castro. Some people noted that he didn’t object to the ethnic legitimacy of actors or their parts when he played Italian icon Mario’s brother Luigi in 1993’s Super Mario Bros.

As soon as it was revealed that James Franco from 127 Hours will portray former Cuban President Fidel Castro, John Leguizamo claimed that Hollywood had stolen Latino roles and cast White actors in them. In Miguel Bardem’s Alina of Cuba, Franco, who was born in Palo Alto, California, played Castro, a Cuban native. Leguizamo posted a lengthy essay on the topic to his Instagram account. He even urged his supporters to skip the upcoming movie.

As was already mentioned, a sizable portion of Twitter responses focused on the fact that John Leguizamo did not voice comparable concerns when he was chosen to play the fictional Italian plumber Luigi in 1993’s Super Mario Bros. The Colombian actor from Bogotá played the Italian plumber in the widely acclaimed movie. On the other side, numerous internet users mocked the situation and showed their support for Leguizamo because the role of Luigi was made up. As a Cuban revolutionary, though, Fidel Castro continues to be one of the most influential figures in international politics.

Over 16,000 people liked Leguizamo’s Instagram post, with many of them being famous Latinx people. Actress Aubrey Plaza concurred with Leguizamo in this regard. Ana Navarro-Cárdenas, co-host of The View, concurred with the Ice Age actor, writing:
James Franco has been involved in several other incidents after a then-17-year-old girl accused him of sending her allegedly inappropriate Instagram messages in 2014, prompting the allegation.
The claims state that Franco was interested in meeting the girl in a New York hotel, especially when she revealed her age. Given that the legal minimum age of consent in New York is 17, the actor’s actions were severely criticized even if they were not technically illegal.
Many women thereafter, starting in 2018, alleged that he forced them into having sexual relations. In January 2018, The New York Times reported that five women had accused Franco of inappropriate sexual behavior. It was reported last year that Franco paid $2.2 million to settle with two women who alleged he sexually abused them.
