Six-part series The novel Ruby Speaking is based on Jayde Adams’ personal experience working in a metropolitan contact center. A comedian claims that her upcoming show will depict “working-class Bristol.”
Instead of focusing solely on affluent Clifton, the comedian said she wanted to highlight south Bristol, where she grew up.
She remarked,
“I truly wanted to show what working-class life is actually here, not some sort of cliché.”
“I believe it is frequently portrayed in a large number of television programs produced by people who are not from the area they are writing about,” she continued.
Joe Sims, a fellow Bristolian, portrays the character Tom in the series.
“He is an extremely loud and arrogant salesman. He enjoys drinking a few beers and having a good time “said Mr Sims.
Jayde Adams stated on BBC Radio Bristol that the character was “as close to toxic masculinity as you can go without having to confront him.”
A few years ago, the comedian who co-created the show and starred as Ruby said she was inspired by a visit to a contact center.
She was concerned that their reunion would be unpleasant because they had pursued separate professional paths since college.
Ms. Adams remarked,
“I realized that she was happy than I am.”
She continued,
“I just discovered a group of folks who were genuinely happy and enjoying their lives with each other.”
After putting out a casting call for local actors, the comedy series also uncovered new talent in Dan Hiscox, age twenty.
‘Bristolian talent’
Mr. Hiscox, who has been cast as Craig, had previously worked as an extra but had never had a speaking role.
Ms. Adams stated that the young chef from Pucklechurch, near Bristol, “impressed us with his charisma.”
“He is an exceptional talent. I’m fortunate and pleased that I beat him to him.”
Mr. Sims stated that it was crucial “to be able to shed a light on the Bristolian talent that is indigenous here, both in front of and behind the camera.”
ITV X will air Ruby Speaking later this year.
