A pianist will return to the music festival where she performed her first complete recital at the age of 11. Jeneba Kanneh-Mason, 19 years old and from Nottingham, made her Southwell Music Festival debut in 2014.
She stated that she was “really excited” to return to the event in August. About a decade after her “awe-inspiring” initial performance, the event’s organizers were thrilled to have her back.
Ms. Kanneh-Mason is a member of the renowned family of musical siblings, six of whom made it to the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent in 2015.
Sheku, the third oldest, was the first black artist to win BBC Young Musician of the Year and later performed at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Recently, Ms. Kanneh-Mason debuted at the BBC Proms with the Chineke Orchestra.
She stated,
“I am quite excited to return to Southwell Music Festival.”
“I recall playing at the festival when I was 11 years old in 2014.”
This was my first ever full-length recital, and the festival and audience welcomed me with such warmth.
The four-day festival is held from August 25 through August 28.
The artistic director of the Southwell Music Festival, Marcus Farnsworth, stated: “I am ecstatic to welcome Jeneba back to the festival nearly a decade after her remarkable performance in 2014.
“Already at the age of 11, Jeneba possessed a strong and distinctive musical identity.
It has been a pleasure to watch her career flourish since then, and I am confident that her performance in August will be a memorable one for our audience.
