Myasthenia gravis (MG) is characterized by uncontrollable muscle weakness and fatigue. MG may develop from a breakdown in the usual connection between neurons and muscles.
MG is more prevalent in women younger than 40 and men older than 60. Common symptoms include muscle weakness, drooping eyelids, double vision or diplopia, trouble speaking, eating and chewing difficulties, and altered facial expressions.
According to physicians, children are occasionally born with a rare form of myasthenia gravis known as a congenital myasthenic syndrome.
The illness may culminate in a myasthenic crisis, thymus gland tumors, an underactive or hyperactive thyroid, and autoimmune illnesses. Myasthenia gravis has no permanent treatment available.
