Jerry Lee Lewis, a well-known pianist, and American rock and roll singer, passed away at the age of 87. Lewis’ agency, which confirmed his passing, described him as “perhaps the last real, tremendous emblem of the beginning of Rock N Roll.”
According to accounts, Lewis passed away at his home in Desoto County, Mississippi, south of Memphis, of natural causes.
Jerry Lee Lewis’ seventh wife, Judith, was by his side when he passed away, according to Zach Farnum, the musician’s spokesman. Farnum claims that Lewis told his wife that he had accepted death and was not afraid of the hereafter in his final moments.
Great Balls of Fire’s vocalist has been compared to legendary performers in the genre including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Carl Perkins, Fats Domino, and Buddy Holly, among others.

The seventh wife of the late artist, Judith, provided the following statement to AFP:
“He is ready to leave. He had neglected his body so terribly as a young man that there wasn’t much hope for him to live through middle age or spend much of old age alone.

Lewis was well known for his blatant approach to playing the piano, which included hammering the keys with his fists and elbows, stamping on the piano bench, standing on the piano, and even setting it on fire. He was heavily influenced by musicians like Elton John.

Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash used Jerry Lee Lewis as a studio musician
In 1935, Lewis was born in Ferriday, Louisiana, into a farming family. He started playing the piano when he was nine years old and quit school to focus on music full-time.
He took a plane to Memphis in 1956 to work as a session musician at Sun Studios for up-and-coming artists like Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash.
Additionally, he helped Elvis Presley. In 1956, Lewis participated in a recording session with Presley, Perkins, and Cash that came to be known as the “Million Dollar Quartet.”
With the release of his breakout song, Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On, the musician gained notoriety the following year. Numerous radio stations were offended by the song’s harsh lyrics and at first, declined to broadcast it.

The musician was elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s first class in 1986. In 1989, Jerry Lewis received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in recognition of his services to the music business. He made a song for the movie Great Balls of Fire! the same year, which revitalized his career. A gospel record he recently released with his cousin Jimmy Swaggart.
