In September 2020, Jet Li understood the true meaning of love. This was a gift from his second wife. He was obligated to apologize to his ex-wife, Huang Qiuyan, as a result. Li desired to make peace with her for the breakdown of their marriage.
Moreover, he allegedly felt remorse for having Qiuyan put her career on hold for him, just to abandon her a few years later.
Jet Li figured out the Meaning of Love
In 2020, Li disclosed that he had decided to transfer the management of his RMB2 billion fortune to his present wife, Nina Li Chi, out of gratitude and trust.
The actor congratulated his wife of 1999, Chi, for putting her career in show business on hold to focus on their family. In addition, he recalled meeting a girl who adored him when he was younger and erroneously believing that he loved her as well.
When he saw Chi, though, he knew it was love at first sight, a passion so deep that he was willing to sacrifice his fame and fortune for her. His first wife, Qiuyan, was the girl he referred to.
Li was married to Qiuyan for three years, from 1987 to 1990, before he met Nina in 1988 when they were both working on Dragon Battle.
After realizing he had to apologize to his ex-wife, he declared [via Yahoo] that he did so.
“I apologize to my former spouse. I was mistaken. I have only now learned what true love is.”
Later, he stated that even after 21 years of marriage, Chi remains radiant and devoted to their two children, Jane and Jada. He continued by stating that it makes him feel deserving as a husband.
The union of Jet Li and Huang Qiuyan was a stroke of good fortune.
According to accounts, the former couple met at Beijing Shichahai Sports School while they were both studying Wushu. Despite the fact that Qiuyan was two years older than Li, they got along well and were secretly married in June 1987.
There was no official ceremony, and neither of the couple’s parents attended.
In 1988, Li decided to move to the United States to advance his profession, and Qiuyan, who was seven months pregnant at the time, gave up her career in the entertainment industry to be with her husband.
Si Li and Taimi Li, who are currently in their early thirties, are her two children. Notably, Li only married Qiuyan because his psychic godmother informed him he needed to in order for his “luck” to improve.
Once his health deteriorated, she gave him this piece of advice, believing that the positive energy from a happy occasion like a wedding would be beneficial.
Since their divorce, Qiuyan has only had positive things to say about Li. Because of this, she has been acclaimed for her tolerance and forgiveness.
It’s also not surprising that he and his ex-wife maintain a cordial relationship. In 2005, when Qiuyan remarried, he presented her with US$50,000 in ang pow to mark the occasion.
