Fred Hickman was a former nightly news anchor and supervising editor for the African-American cable news network Black News Channel.
Hickman has additionally worked for CNN, YES, TBS, and ESPN.
Fred was born and educated in Springfield, Illinois, and after graduating from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1978, he joined CNN’s Sports Tonight in 1980 as an original co-host.
Hickman won CableACE awards in 1989 and 1993, as well as a New York Sports Emmy in 2004.
Fred was nominated for the CableACE (Award for Cable Excellence) for best sports presenter from 1988 to 1993. In both 1989 and 1993, Hickman won the award.
In 1993, Fred was awarded “sexiest sportscaster” by the U.S. Television Fan Association. In 2004, Hickman received a New York Sports Emmy Award, and in 2007, he was inducted into the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame.

At the time of his departure, Hickman was the managing editor and an anchor for Black News Channel.
