Does Julian Assange follow Islam? There are questions regarding the Australian activist’s views because it is unknown what religion he practices.
Wikileaks is a website that publishes secret and classified material from various sources. Its originator, Julian Assange, is a controversial figure who has been in the public eye for more than ten years. Assange is being held in detention in the UK while he awaits word on his extradition to the US, where he is being investigated for hacking and espionage.
Is Julian Assange Muslim or Jewish?
Regarding Assange, one of the most frequently asked questions is what religion he practices. Is he Jewish or Muslim? Neither is the response. Assange identifies as an atheist and an opponent of established religion. Additionally, he has contested the notion that a monotheistic God is an oppressive and autocratic force. In an interview, Assange asked Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the terrorist group Hezbollah, which is based in Lebanon, “You have fought against the hegemony of the United States.”
“Since the concept of a monotheistic God is the ultimate superpower, shouldn’t one of your objectives as a freedom fighter be to liberate people from this oppressive idea?”
As human values are in line with the laws of the sky and morality comes from God, Nasrallah claimed that resisting American hegemony is a religious duty. Assange has denied any ties to Judaism, even despite his assertions of Jewish ancestry. “There’s no Jewish blood in my family, and I’m not Jewish,” he declared in an interview with The New Statesman.
Julian Assange Family’s Ethnicity and Origin
Julian Paul Hawkins, the future Assange, was born in Townsville, Queensland, Australia, on July 3, 1971. His father, John Shipton, is a builder and an antiwar campaigner, and his mother, Christine Ann Hawkins, is a visual artist. Before Assange was even born, his parents divorced, and he didn’t meet his biological father until he was 25 years old.
The man who gave him his surname, Brett Assange, was his mother’s lover and the primary caregiver for him. Assange’s family relocated frequently while he was a child, living in more than 30 locations across Australia. He was homeschooled for a while in addition to attending other schools.
He had an early interest in computers and hacking, and in the late 1980s and early 1990s, he took part in several cyberattacks. In 1996, he was found guilty of hacking, but his punishment was not severe. Assange has four kids from different relationships. At the age of 18, he wed Teresa Assange in 1989, and the two had a son named Daniel.
The couple separated in 1999. Along with Sarah Harrison, a former colleague at WikiLeaks who helped him escape in 2012 to Ecuador’s embassy in London, he also has another son. With Stella Moris-Smith Robertson, an attorney who represents him in court, he has two more children.
While he was incarcerated in 2022, they got married. Assange is primarily of European stock, while his maternal grandmother’s side of the family also has some Aboriginal Australian ancestry. He has said that he only holds his native citizenship and that he identifies as Australian. After the Ecuadorian government revoked his asylum in 2021, he lost his Ecuadorian citizenship, which had been granted to him in 2017.
