With a summit elevation of 6,960 meters above sea level, Aconcagua in Argentina is the tallest mountain peak in both the western and southern hemispheres, where she recently completed her last climbing expedition.

After several exhausting days of hiking and climbing, Kshamata Skeete finally reached the peak of Aconcagua on January 24, 2023.
But tragedy befell her as she descended, in the Piedras Blancas region, some 5,500 meters above sea level, where she had a heart attack.
Gabriel Fraccia, her guide, reported the situation right away, but attempts at resuscitation were fruitless.
Skeete’s passing is the fourth climbing-related death on Aconcagua this season.
Her body was probably under tremendous strain due to the high altitude and strong gusts of above 100 km/h, which led to the deadly medical emergency.

On January 24, 2023, Dr. Kshamata Skeete, 49, unfortunately died while descending from the top of Argentina’s Aconcagua.
On April 5, 1974, Skeete was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Mark and Claire Skeete. She earned a B.S. in biology with honors from UNC Chapel Hill in 1996, graduating summa cum laude.
After graduating from Duke University in 2000 with a medical degree, Skeete went on to specialize in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine.
Skeete is renowned for her medical prowess, empathy for her patients, outdoor interest, and spirit of adventure.
Friends, relatives, and coworkers all miss her terribly.
In addition to her parents, Mark and Claire, and siblings, Jake Skeete and Leah Thomas, Skeete is survived by her spouse, Tom Fielding. Charlotte will host a memorial ceremony on February 10.
