For over seven years, Kyra Sedgwick portrayed Brenda Leigh Johnson on TNT’s The Closer.
To date, it is still her biggest work and many people remember her for it. It earned her five Primetime Emmy nominations, as well as the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2010.
However, Sedgwick decided to end the show in 2012.

In an interview with TV Line in 2011, the actress revealed that The Closer’s seventh season would be it’s final.
“It’s very emotional for me,” she said of her decision to cancel the show. “It was extremely difficult to make this decision.”
Sedgwick revealed that the main reason she decided to end the show was that it was procedural.
“At the end of the day, [The Closer] is still procedural, and I think that probably played a role in my decision,” she explained. “Even with all of this amazing character stuff, that’s what it is.”
Sedgwick stated that she had considered the option for over a year before making her decision.
Furthermore, she stated that it ultimately came down to her desire to do other creative things. “I’m an artist who wants to express myself in different ways and places.”
There was a lot of speculation about her leaving The Closer at the time because of her two children with her husband Kevin Bacon. However, she stated that it was irrelevant because they were already young adults.
While the decision to end the show after seven successful seasons was difficult, Sedgwick expressed her satisfaction with TNT’s Major Crimes spinoff.
“I’m very happy that they’re going to do another show,” she said of the spinoff. “That helps to soften the blow.”
Sedgwick, Kyra Following ‘The Closer,’
Sedgwick has continued to act in a variety of films and television shows since the end of The Closer.
Following the conclusion of the police procedural series, her first notable project was the documentary The Possession: Dybbuk Box.
She plays a protective mother who turns against her estranged ex-husband when their daughter exhibits strange and sinister behavior in the film.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sedgwick discussed what she missed about The Closer.
“I miss the people a lot. “I miss being creatively fulfilled every day and having to push myself to my absolute limit every day,” she said.
“I’m also grateful that I don’t have to push myself to the limit every day and that I have time to let my imagination wander to other things and explore other possibilities.”
The actress went on to say that her dream was to continue working on films with great actors and directors.
Ten Days in the Valley (2017), Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2014-2020), and Call Your Mother are some of Sedgwick’s more recent works (2021).
