Stephanie and Alex, unlike their daughter, keep a low profile. They, on the other hand, have always been supportive of their daughter, Lexi. In fact, the actress spent the majority of her performance career with her parents. Her parents even consented to accompany her from Washington, DC to the west coast so that she may pursue her career.
Lexi was just 12 years old and had recently completed her 2015 theatrical tour of The Lion King. Soon after, she asked her parents to relocate from Washington, DC to Los Angeles with her. Underwood’s parents first agreed to a three-month relocation, but they would end up staying in Los Angeles for years.
Lexi is grateful that her parents listened to her even though she was 12 years old and had great goals.
Lexi Underwood’s Parents; Her Actress Mother Stephanie Black Persuaded Her to Continue Acting
Lexi’s mother was also instrumental in convincing her daughter to audition for the role of Pearl Warren in Little Fires Everywhere. During an interview with Airmail in March 2020, Underwood said that she had almost given up on acting the day before her audition. Her mother Stephanie, on the other hand, gave her the encouragement she needed to keep going.
Lexi claims her mother told her,
You were desperate to get an audition for Little Fires. Simply go in and do your absolute best. And if you don’t get it and still want to go home, that’s perfectly fine. But at the very least, go in there and show them what you have.
Stephanie’s words of encouragement may have been exactly what Lexi needed to land the role in Little Fires Everywhere.
Alex Underwood’s Profession, Lexi’s Father
Lexi’s father, Alex Underwood, attended the University of Virginia and is a former Lincoln, Sudbury Regional High School student. Alex is said to be from Boston, Massachusetts.
Alex and his wife Stephanie appear to have returned to Washington, DC.
As a result, Lexi’s father, Alex, is now a senior compliance officer at the Office of Labor Standards in Washington, DC. According to his LinkedIn, he oversees all city-wide building projects funded by the government in order to uphold and promote the District’s First Source Law.
Alex Underwood has previously held positions such as event specialist, sports marketing coordinator, national program coordinator, commissioner, and treasurer.
While little is known about Lexi’s mother’s profession, she is said to be the daughter of James William Black and Graphelia Smith. The former is a professional golfer who was born in North Carolina.
Stephanie is considered to be in charge of the most of her daughter’s acting career.
