Richard Penniman was born on December 5, 1932, in Macon, Georgia. He released the hit single Tutti Frutti in 1955, and it peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Rhythm and Blues Best-Sellers chart. One of his tracks, Long Tally Sally, peaked at No. 1 on the R&B chart in 1956. He rose to fame as an artist for package tours across the country after his triumph.

He was well-liked by both whites and blacks and is recognized for using music to bridge the gap between the two groups. Here’s Little Richard, his debut album, was issued by him in 1957. On the Billboard Pop Albums chart, the album, which featured the popular single Long Tall Sally, peaked at No. 13. Little Richard and The Fabulous Little Richard followed in 1958 and 1959, respectively.
