Madonna will go on her first-ever greatest hits tour to commemorate the 40th anniversary of her breakout track, Holiday.
The pop superstar will sing songs from her entire career, from her self-titled debut album in 1983 to Madame X in 2019.
After the experimental, theatre-based Madame X shows in 2019 and 2020, she will return to arenas and stadiums on the 35-date Celebration Tour.
Some of those appearances were canceled due to the star’s knee and hip problems.
The final ten Paris dates were then canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I am delighted to explore as many songs as possible, in hopes of giving my fans the concert they have been waiting for,” the star said in announcing the new tour.
A press announcement said the concerts “will take us on Madonna’s artistic journey across four decades and pays honor to the city of New York where her career in music began”.
The tour will begin in July in Vancouver, Canada, and will include stops in New York, Barcelona, Paris, and Stockholm before concluding in Amsterdam on December 1st.
So far, only one UK date has been announced: 14 October at London’s O2 Arena. Her itinerary, however, is clear for a week on each side of that date, implying that further gigs will be confirmed once the original dates sell out.
Tickets for the Celebration tour go on sale at 10:00 a.m. local time on Friday, January 20, with pre-sales for fan club members beginning on Tuesday, January 17 (North America) and Wednesday, January 18 (Europe) (Europe).
The 64-year-old singer-songwriter will have no shortage of songs to pick from while putting up the repertoire.
She had 63 UK top 10 hits, including 13 number-one singles, ranging from Into The Groove (1985) and Like A Prayer (1989) to Vogue (1990) and Hung Up (1991). (2005).
In an interview with the BBC in 2017, the diva explained why she had avoided those classics on past tours.
“Some songs I’m tired of doing and don’t want to do,” she explained.
“So if I did Material Girl or Express Yourself on the previous tour, I’ll think, ‘OK, I did it for 88 shows. I’m not going to do it again.'”
Her Reinvention concerts in 2004 were the closest she has got to a formal greatest hits tour.
‘I don’t think about stopping
The setlist mostly neglected her then-current album, American Life, in favor of favorites like Papa Don’t Preach, Into The Groove, and Holiday on those occasions.
Her Sticky and Sweet Tour became the highest-earning tour by a female artist ever in 2008-09, grossing $411 million (£335 million).
Speaking to V Magazine in 2021 about her illness during the Madame X concerts, the actress stated that she was determined to finish the tour.
“I had no cartilage left in my right hip, and everyone kept telling me, ‘You’ve got to stop, you’ve got to stop,'” she says.
“‘I will not stop,’ I declared. I shall go until the wheels fall off’.”
Madonna remarked in the same interview: “I have no intention of stopping. I could have made a billion dollars by doing a stadium tour of greatest hits.”
TikTok annihilation
Madonna’s music has also witnessed a renaissance on TikTok in the previous year, with classics like Frozen and Material Girl reaching a new audience.
In September, a decade-old pirated demo dubbed Back That Up To The Beat reappeared on the video-sharing app, spawning thousands of recordings.
Madonna decided to make the demo official in December as a result of its success. (An unfinished but drastically different version of the song was also included as a bonus track on Madame X.)
Finally, Enough Love, a career-spanning compilation comprising dance remixes of her best hits, was also released last year. Twenty of the tracks were first-time official releases of rare recordings.
The album, which reached number three in the UK charts, was the first project under Madonna’s 2021 deal with Warner Songs for an “extensive, multi-year series of library releases that would explore the innovative music that made her an international phenomenon”.
