According to Newsweek, Matt Gaetz had a relationship with a male staff member, based in part on tweets from the Democratic opponent he defeated.
Rebekah Jones, the Democratic candidate for House Republican Gaetz’s re-election in November 2022, made the unsubstantiated claim, which has already gone viral, receiving more than 6.5 million views on Twitter alone.

Rep. Gaetz’s office sent the following statement to Fox News Digital: “People who have been fired three times, indicted, defeated in politics, or are mentally unstable should not be used as sources by respectable media.”
Mrs. Jones identified no references or supporting documentation in her defamatory tweets.”
Resolution “PENCIL” Introduced by Matt Gaetz
The “Preventing Extreme Negligence with Classified Information Licenses,” or PENCIL Resolution, was proposed by Matt Gaetz.
The PENCIL Resolution appears to be a play on Trump’s pejorative “Pencil-Neck” moniker for Schiff.
It requests that the House Ethics Committee investigate Schiff’s (D-Calif.) comments in Congress concerning the Russian link and the Trump campaign, and that whatever access he has to classified information be denied to him.
According to Gaetz’s office, the resolution “expresses the view of the United States House of Representatives that Congressman Adam Schiff should not have access to classified information.”
It should be investigated by the House Ethics Committee. Furthermore, any comments he made during any congressional process concerning Russian collusion and the Trump campaign should be properly struck from the record.”
Because of his position on the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Schiff had access to sensitive papers such as the first impeachment of former President Donald Trump and the Select Committee on the January 6 Attack.
