In a brand-new teaser for the Netflix series Harry and Meghan, Prince Harry refers to the “leaking and… planting of rumors” as a “dirty game.”
In an apparent allusion to his wife, Meghan, and mother, Princess Diana, and their experiences as members of the royal family, he talks about the “pain and sorrow of women marrying into this institution.”
A pundit brings up the subject of race and the royals, saying: “The topic is hatred. The topic is race.”
Thursday marks the start of the six-part series. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s most recent teaser feature a string of biting remarks that do not attempt to extend an arm of amity to the Royal Family.
Instead, there is commentary that asserts “a war was fought against Meghan to further the interests of others.”
Prince Harry speaks over a picture of senior royals on the balcony of Buckingham Palace and adds: “The family is organized in a hierarchy. You are aware that there are both leaks and intentionally planted tales.”
Prince Harry and Meghan were not permitted to stand on that significant balcony during the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee because they are no longer “working royals.”
The choice of a stony-faced image of Catherine, Princess of Wales, in a previous video last week caused criticism, and this most recent teaser features another stern image of her alongside Camilla, the Queen Consort, and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex.
The first three episodes of the series will air on December 8 at 8 a.m., followed by the second three the following week on December 15 at the same time.
The most recent teaser provides a brief history of the couple’s tumultuous interactions with other royals, the media, and the general public, which culminated with Prince Harry and Meghan leaving for the US.
Meghan is initially welcomed with open arms by the public and is referred to as a “royal rock star.”
Then, though, it seemed as though “everything changed,” with Prince Harry mentioning leaks and fake news. In the trailer, Christopher Bouzy, who started a business that specializes in combating false information on social media, is heard saying: “The topic is hatred. The topic is race.”
Mr. Bouzy has defended Meghan and forewarned her of possible cyber threats against her.
Using pictures of the tremendous media coverage she received, the teaser compares Meghan’s experience to the pressure Princess Diana underwent, with Meghan stating, “I realized, they’re never going to protect you.”
At the conclusion, Prince Harry declares, “We know the full truth,” introducing a Netflix series that will have a 15 rating and a warning that it deals with “discrimination.”
However, some of the video seen in the trailer has sparked debate on social media because some of the images appear to be from occasions not involving the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
On Twitter, it was asserted that a fleeting image of photographers scrambling to grab shots was really from Crawley Magistrates’ Court, not from the couple’s engagement. We’ve reached out to Netflix for a response.
The newest hints of upcoming announcements from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not received an official response from Buckingham Palace.
However, there may be worries about potential claims and if the attention focused on Harry and Meghan would eclipse the work of other royals.
The book of Prince Harry will be published in the new year, which will be followed by the TV show in the run-up to Christmas.
The Prince of Wales, Prince Harry’s brother, was in the US last week to receive his Earth shot environmental medal when a trailer for the Netflix series was made public.
Audiences will be interested to see if Prince Harry and Meghan address the difficulties expressed in an interview with US talk show host Oprah Winfrey in the documentary, which promises a “behind closed doors” account of why they stepped down from royal duties in 2020.
Meghan had lamented the lack of support and had depicted a lonely and secluded life within the Royal Family.
She added that an anonymous family member may have inquired about the “darkness” of their son Archie’s complexion.
The racial controversy surrounding remarks made to a black British visitor at Buckingham Palace is depicted in the trailer for the upcoming documentary.
After Ngozi Fulani, the founder of the charity Sistah Space, detailed how she had been repeatedly questioned where she was from “truly” at a gathering, Lady Susan Hussey, Prince William’s godmother, resigned from her honorary palace duties last week.
In response to the controversy, a representative for Prince William stated that “racism has no place in our culture.”
