Last year, Hailey Bieber disclosed that she was diagnosed with PFO (patent foramen ovale) after being treated for a blood clot in her brain.
One year after surviving a scary mini-stroke, Hailey Baldwin revealed additional details about the incident. On Friday, March 10, the model and wife of Justin Bieber posted on Instagram about the “life-changing experience” that led to her PFO (patent foramen ovale) diagnosis.
“Can’t believe it’s been a year since my mini-stroke that led to my PFO diagnosis,” Hailey said,
adding, “Consider that it’s been a year since such a life-altering occurrence, I wanted to share all the knowledge I’ve learned about PFO and resources to contribute.”
In the accompanying 12-minute video, Hailey elaborated on the incident and the PFO diagnosis, which, according to the Mayo Clinic, is a “hole in the heart that didn’t close after birth.”
During the mini-stroke, Hailey recalls her arm becoming numb, her husband Justin asking if she was okay, and then the pop singer phoning 911. Hailey had the PFO closed in the hospital on the advice of her doctor and has now fully recovered.
She said,
“I am most relieved that we were able to sort everything out, that we were able to finish the case, and that I will be able to move on from this terrifying scenario and just live my life.”
Two months ago, Hailey discussed her hospitalization on The Run-Through with Vogue podcast, revealing that she suffers from “PTSD” as a result. It was the scariest thing I’ve ever encountered, according to Hailey, who described the experience as “extremely unsettling.”
“Thereafter, I struggled with a great deal of anxiety,” she continued. “I struggled with a small amount of PTSD [Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder] due to the concern that it would occur again. I had the impression that I never want to experience that again in my lifetime. I mean, it was frightening, shocking, and disorienting in every way imaginable.”
In March, when news of Hailey’s health scare first broke, she turned to Instagram to update her fans on the situation.
“I was eating breakfast with my husband on Thursday morning when I began experiencing stroke-like symptoms and was transported to the hospital,” she wrote.
Doctors discovered that I had a very small blood clot in my brain, which caused a small lack of oxygen. But, my body disposed of the clot on its own, and I fully recovered within a few hours.
Hailey Bieber went on:
“Even though this was one of the scariest experiences I’ve ever had, I’m now home and doing well, and I’m so glad and thanks to the incredible doctors and nurses that cared for me! Thank you to everyone who has expressed concern and sent well wishes, as well as for all the support and love.”
Today, even months later, when Hailey revisits Palm Springs, the city where the assault occurred, she is “triggered.” On a podcast, she noted,
“Even the first couple of times coming back here was a little bit of an odd, triggering experience for me because you remember precisely how everything transpired at that moment.” “But, I believe the silver lining is that I discovered I had a hole in my heart.”
