Park So-dam, best known for her roles in Parasite and Record of Youth, opened up about the difficulties she encountered while filming Phantom. The film was completed in late 2021, shortly before the actress was diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma.
On January 16, 2023, the 31-year-old went to Newsen for a Phantom interview. She discussed the difficulties she was experiencing at the time and how she initially assumed she was burnt out. She was terrified of shooting and even sobbed for the actors and crew. Soompi’s interpretation:
“I didn’t realize my body was in pain while we were shooting. I assumed it was simply exhaustion. It was my first time on-site, and I was nervous. I believe my body was communicating with me, but I dismissed it as a mental issue. “I felt awful for the director and my seniors.” I even sobbed after the shoot because I was sorry.”

In December 2021, Park So-agency dam announced that she had been diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma and had undergone surgery. It occurred during Special Delivery promotions, and the corporation announced that the actress would not be participating in them.
The following film, Phantom, was one of the projects Park So-dam was working on when she was diagnosed. The actress claimed that she was on the verge of losing her voice and that if the voice recordings had been completed a little later, she would not have been able to complete it. She went on to say:
“While waiting for my biopsy results, I completed my voice recordings for Phantom. I was in such bad shape that I almost lost my voice, and if I had been even a few minutes late, I would not have been able to finish the recordings.”
She emphasized the advantages she gained from her calamitous experience after disclosing her production problems:
“I’ve regained my health and I feel glad these days that I can meet plenty of people and welcome them with my own voice. Despite my progress, my skin has been a disaster due to hormonal imbalances.”
The Phantom actress continued, saying:
“I’m finding my body’s flow by going to pilates five or six times a week. While my energy hasn’t completely returned, I can’t help but think about how happy I am compared to this time last year.”
According to Chosun, Park So-dam also took a month-long solo vacation for self-reflection. She traveled to Spain, Switzerland, London, and Iceland and was surprised to learn that strangers recognized her as the actress from Parasite and Record of Youth.
Phantom is an espionage thriller set in 1993, during Japan’s annexation of Korea. Park So-dam plays Yuriko, the ambitious and lovely secretary of the Government-political General’s affairs head. The movie came out on January 18, 2018.
