American politician, professor of law, and lawyer Katherine Moore Porter is active worldwide.
She formerly served as the congressman for California’s 47th congressional district from 2019 to 2023.
The 45th district, which includes a substantial portion of south-central Orange County, has never had a Democrat in office.
It also covers a substantial chunk of Anaheim and Laguna Niguel, as well as Lake Forest, Irvine, and Tustin.

Porter graduated from Yale and Harvard Law Schools and has taught law at a number of colleges and universities, including the University of Iowa, William S. Boyd School of Law, and University of California, Irvine.
She is the deputy head of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and is well-known in the media for asking insightful questions at hearings.
Judge Richard S. Arnold of the 8th Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals in Little Rock, Arkansas, used Porter as his legal assistant.
She led the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges’ Business Bankruptcy Project while working as an attorney at Stoel Rives LLP in Portland, Oregon.
Porter was a faculty member at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Law where she taught associate law courses.
She joined the University of Iowa College of Law faculty in 2005 as an associate professor, and in 2011 she was elevated to full professor.
In 2011, she also received tenure at the University of California, Irvine School of Law.

On January 3, 1974, Katie Porter was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She grew up on a farm in southern Iowa.
Her father, Dan Porter, was a farmer who subsequently transitioned into banking. Her mother, Liz, was instrumental in starting Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting.
Following her graduation from Phillips Academy, Porter enrolled at Yale University, where she studied American studies and earned a degree in 1996.

On social media, she gained popularity among liberal Democrats, and on Tuesday, she declared that she will run for Dianne Feinstein’s Senate seat in 2024. 49-year-old Ms. Porter is the first formally named rival.
Ms. Feinstein opted not to take up the position of president pro tem of the Senate last year after receiving harsh criticism in the wake of Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation hearing to the Supreme Court.
She also gave her resignation earlier in the year as the leading Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee.
