The pair met at a Minnesota cooking school where Zimmern was a professor and Haas worked in the school store. The couple married in 2002. Despite their 20-year age difference, they fell in love and married the day after Christmas in front of their family and friends at St. Paul Judge Roseanne Nathanson in Minneapolis.
Haas and Zimmern welcomed their son Noah in 2005, three years after their marriage; nevertheless, the couple is now separated and divorced after 16 years of marriage. Zimmern claimed in an interview that one of the reasons they are divorcing is because his job needs him to travel frequently.

While working at a cooking school, Haas met her husband, Andrew Zimmern. She later worked as an Admissions Coordinator at The Retreat Alive with the Spirit of Recovery, popularly known as “The Retreat,” a rehabilitation institution offering an alternative alcohol treatment program. Her time at The Retreat contributed to the advancement of her career as well as her net worth.
Following The Retreat, Haas worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation in Center City, Minnesota, a prominent drug and alcohol addiction treatment facility created in 2014 by the merging of the Minnesota-based Hazelden Foundation with the Rancho Mirage Betty Ford Center.
