The mishap occurred more than 50 years ago, and after a never-ending investigation, it was determined that William DeRoos was the murderer of the Vermont teacher. However, Acting Burlington Police Chief Jon Murad has now identified the assailants. Curran was assassinated in 1971. According to the report, the victim was sexually assaulted before being strangled to death. Curran was also severely injured and beaten, according to the medical examiner. As previously stated, the investigator finally identified Rita Curran’s killer after more than a half-century of searching. Police Chief Jon Murad, in particular, was the one who shed light on the case. Many tried but failed; however, Murad never gave up and now has the answer to Curran’s murder.
According to reports, Curran, then 24, was murdered by her next-door neighbor, William DeRoos. Furthermore, it was revealed that Curran’s assailant fled the country and became a monk, but he died of a drug overdose. According to VT Digger, DeRoos, 31, was a newlywed who lived in the same building as Curran.
DeRoos and his wife, Michelle DeRoos, lived two floors above Curran. He was a suspect in the murder case at the time, but his wife provided an alibi and saved him from further investigation. However, after a long silence, DeRoos’ partner finally revealed the truth. Despite her reluctance, Michelle eventually revealed the truth to Murad after some counseling.
Michelle claims she and her newlywed husband had a minor argument the night Curran was murdered. They argued, and William went outside to cool off. Soon after the truth was revealed, everything began to fall into place, and William was identified as Curran’s murderer. It all came together when the DNA from a discarded cigarette butt found at the crime scene was compared to William’s.
Despite his success in evading his punishment at the time, William was served by karma. He died as a result of a drug overdose. Wiliams was 46 years old and living in San Francisco. However, before all of that, William moved to Thailand and began his life as a monk. He did, in fact, leave the country and become a Buddhist monk. William attempted to distance himself from his wrongdoing by living as a monk in a different country for several years.

As the investigation progressed, new information came to light, and investigators discovered that William DeRoos had relocated to San Francisco and married another woman. Following an interrogation of DeRoos’ second wife, it was revealed that Curran’s murderer changed his name to Dutch, and the woman knew him as a guru.
DeRoos’ violent behavior was also revealed by the woman. She also sheds light on DeRoos’ true nature. In her case, he even stabbed one of her friends and was arrested for it; however, what happened next is unknown.
