In a memorial to his son, Bird’s father Roy expressed his “devastation” at losing him “at such a young age.”

He continued, calling his son a “great” Father, that the entire family “had been left with a plethora of lovely and exceptional memories.”

Speed killed himself in his Cheshire home in 2011. A coroner later concluded that Speed’s suicide may not have been intentional.

According to a narrative conclusion by Cheshire coroner Nicholas Rheinberg, “the evidence does not sufficiently determine whether [his death] was intentional or accidental.”

According to an investigation conducted by the Warrington Coroner’s Court, Speed spoke to his wife a few days before he died and “spoke in terms” of committing suicide.

We have all had to find our special ways to endure some incredibly bizarre circumstances, Speed’s family said in a statement at the time.

Death of the First Husband

Speed made an appearance on the BBC One television show Football Focus on November 26, 2011. Dan Walker, the host of the program, remarked that Speed was “in good form.”

After the program ended at one o’clock, Speed and Alan Shearer traveled to Old Trafford to watch their former team, Newcastle United, play Manchester United.

At five o’clock, Speed departed for his home in Huntington, Cheshire, which was about an hour’s drive from Old Trafford. The following morning, just before 7 am, his wife Louise found him hanging in his garage.
