Robbie Coltrane

Robbie Coltrane, who portrayed the popular character Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter film trilogy, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022, at the age of 72. His spokesman indicated that he was hospitalized at the time.

Robbie Coltrane appeared in all eight Harry Potter motion pictures. In addition to GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough, he starred in the critically acclaimed television series Cracker, for which he garnered three BAFTA nominations.

According to the actor, he suffered from osteoarthritis for many years, which severely limited his movement and caused him agonizing pain. During his latter years, he utilized a cane and a wheelchair.

Robbie Coltrane characterized himself as experiencing “constant agony throughout the day.”

The actor’s battle with osteoarthritis was made public for the first time in March 2019, when he was spotted using a wheelchair. Robbie Coltrane was reportedly in pain for many years.

Osteoarthritis is one of the most frequent kinds of arthritis. It is caused by the degeneration of the cartilage that cushions the bone ends. “wear and tear” arthritis is another name for degenerative joint disease.

It is possible that genetics, lifestyle, and diet all contribute to this sickness. Although osteoarthritis can affect any joint, it typically affects the spine, hands, knees, and hips.

The actor stated that the condition had damaged him substantially and that he was in constant pain while filming Great Expectations and National Treasure. He also stated that he was advised to lose weight in order to alleviate his pain.

Coltrane told the Daily Star,

“I am in constant anguish.”

He proceeded:

“After an exploratory operation, physicians discovered that one of my knees was devoid of cartilage. It has melted entirely.”

In 2020, long-awaited knee surgery in the United States brought him some relief. He commented at the time:

“It was simply terrible.”

After the treatment, the ability to sleep and lack of pain has revolutionized my life.”

Other fans also criticized the healthcare system, asserting that Robbie Coltrane died due to inadequate infrastructure and preparations for persons with severe illnesses. Due to health concerns, the actor canceled his appearance at this year’s Comic-Con in Olympia, London.

In an HBO special commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Harry Potter series, Coltrane reflected on his own time on Earth and the franchise’s legacy.

“The legacy of the movies is that my children’s generation will show them to their children, so you may be seeing them in 50 years. Regrettably, I will be absent, but Hagrid will be present.”

Robbie Coltrane’s Harry Potter co-stars, including Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, extended their deepest condolences upon hearing the news of his passing. Many admirers attended to pay their respects to the actor, who was a formative force for many.
