The late Robbie Coltrane, who played the well-known character of Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter film trilogy, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022, at the age of 72.
According to his agent, he was at the hospital at the time. Every single one of the eight Harry Potter movies included Robbie Coltrane. He also starred in the critically acclaimed television series Cracker, for which he garnered three BAFTA nominations, and the James Bond movies GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough.
The actor said that he had osteoarthritis, which had severely limited his mobility and caused him considerable suffering. In his later years, he needed a wheelchair and a walking stick.
When the actor was spotted in a wheelchair in March 2019, the public first learned about the actor’s battle with osteoarthritis.
According to reports, Robbie Coltrane had been uncomfortable for a long time. Osteoarthritis is one of the most prevalent kinds of arthritis. The deterioration of the protective cartilage that cushions the ends of the bones is what causes it. Wear-and-tear arthritis is another name for degenerative joint disease.
The cause of this condition may be influenced by food, lifestyle, and genetics. Although osteoarthritis can affect any joint, the hands, knees, hips, and spine are the most frequently affected.
The actor claimed that the illness had seriously hurt him and that, while filming Great Expectations and National Treasure, he was tormented at all hours of the day. He added that in order to ease his suffering, it was advised that he lose weight.
“Doctors discovered that I had no cartilage left in one of my knees during an exploratory operation. It is completely disintegrated.
He received some relief in 2020 after a long-awaited knee operation in the United States.

Robbie Coltrane’s death, according to some supporters, was caused by the healthcare system’s deficient infrastructure and provisions for people with life-threatening illnesses. Due to health concerns, the actor postponed his participation in this year’s Olympia, London, Comic-Con.
In an HBO special honoring the 20th anniversary of the Harry Potter books and films, Coltrane was shown reflecting on his own time on Earth and the franchise’s impact.
