The statement continued by saying that the actor, who is best known for his portrayal as Sheriff Mort Metzger on Murder, She Wrote, had volunteered for years at a variety of humanitarian events.

Ron Masak portrayed Mort Metzger in the CBS crime drama Murder, She Wrote. Mort took over as Cabot Cove, Maine’s sheriff after Amos Tupper retired.
Former New York Police Department officer Metzger and his wife Adele relocated to Cabot Cove in search of tranquility.
He assisted Jessica Fletcher in resolving all of Cabot Cove’s crimes and operated a 1976 red Cadillac Eldorado convertible. Metzger was married, however, his wife was never depicted in a movie.
It was a recurring role that first appeared in the fifth season and ran through the show’s finale. 264 episodes of Murder, She Wrote was broadcast over the course of 12 seasons, from September 30, 1984, to May 19, 1996. Four television movies and two PC video games came out of it.

Floyd Ron Masak was born on July 1, 1936, to Louis Masak and Mildred Alice Rudy. Ron performed vocal impersonations on the all-Army musical Rolling Along while touring the world in 1960 and 1961.
He next took part in the 1968 short film Second Effort before appearing in a supporting role in the 1969 submarine action thriller Ice Station Zebra.
The actor also played Herbie Maddox in the 1978 comedy film Harper Valley PTA. He also made a brief appearance on the NBC sitcom I Dream of Jeannie.
A role in the crime drama The Rockford Files came after that. In 1960, Masak made his television debut in an episode of The Twilight Zone.
He thereafter appeared in episodes of The Flying Nun, Bewitched, and Irving Bates, Sr., among other shows. He had a guest appearance on an episode of Land of the Lost and as officer Shriker in the second season of Barney Miller.
