In her autobiography, Lakshmi was honest about her tumultuous love life. She opened up about her three-year marriage to The Satanic Verses author Salam Rushdie.

When the author first met her ex-husband in 1999, she was enamored with him and dubbed him the Indian Hemingway. Rushdie, who was much out of her league, showing attention in her caught her off guard.

He was undoubtedly the most delicate thing that has ever happened to me, I mean. That someone of such stature and standing would wish to take me out to lunch seemed almost unbelievable.

Lakshmi’s post was well received. On their first date, the couple met in Central Park, and they raised each other in the bedroom. Lakshmi stated that she had been seduced by his remarks.

The Emmy-nominated broadcaster recalled the early years of the couple’s romance as being “blissful” and passionate before they were married in 2004. Rushdie was an Indian who lived in the West, just like Lakshmi, so she had finally met someone who understood her.

Her spouse used to make her breakfast in bed every morning. After Lakshmi was satisfied that Rushdie’s marriage to his third wife was over, they eventually moved in together.

For the cookbook author, everything was going great, but she had no idea that her marriage would end. Along with their marriage, Lakshmi’s career as a chef developed, but her husband despised it rather than encouraging and supporting her.

The host’s inability to fully satisfy his demands made The Satanic Verses the author dissatisfied. When the Nobel Prize was given to someone else, Lakshmi also wrote about how she had to console her husband.

This, however, is just one of the less ominous and scary memories. The cook said her endometriosis had gotten worse and her husband was unconcerned. She was therefore frequently in agonizing pain and unable to engage in sexual activity. Rushdie accused her of using her illness as an excuse to avoid having sex rather than offering his support.

“I didn’t want to help him, but there was a serious problem. And I was unable to understand it. And as a result, there was a ton of uncertainty, the chef claimed.

They were fighting all the time to the point where he called her “a poor investment.” Rushdie took a vacation after Lakshmi’s five-hour procedure resulted in stitches and stents but insisted that “the performance must go on” before leaving. Following her recovery, Lakshmi sought legal advice from a divorce attorney, and their three-year marriage was abruptly ended.
