Bravo plans to premiere Top Chef Season 19 in March. One of the 15 talented chefs vying for $250,000 in prize money is Detroit-based Sarah Welch.

She is a co-founder of the Corktown neighborhood restaurant Mink, which specializes in seafood, and a partner and executive chef of the Marrow restaurant.
Her culinary skills, which she attributes to her Jamaican roots, are what make her enterprises successful. Welch commuted between Michigan and Jamaica during his formative years.
Despite hailing from a family of foodies, her time in Jamaica inspired her to pursue a career as a chef. In an interview, she stated the following to the Institute of Cooking Education, her culinary school:
We grew up around Jamaican children who, in contrast to their American contemporaries, could prepare meals for themselves as early as age eight. They could roast fish over open flames and make dumplings from wheat and water that astounded me. Without a doubt, those were pivotal moments for me.
The four friends who own the Marrow restaurant are Welch, Nick Ponte, Amanda Franke, and Ping Ho (Founder). The restaurant advanced to the James Beard Foundation’s semifinal round in the Best New Restaurant in the Country category in 2019 thanks to the chef’s creations. The same year, Marrow was recognized as one of Eater’s finest new restaurants.
The same charity recognized Welch as a semifinalist for Best Chef in the Great Lakes category in 2020. Welch has two years of experience as an executive chef, having worked at Republic and Parks & Rec Diner.
She graduated from Michigan State University with a business degree and the International Culinary Center (ICC) in New York City with a culinary degree. She is a partner at Mink as well as Marrow, and her fiancé Cameron Rolka works as the executive chef there. After more than nine years of dating, the couple got engaged in 2020. Welch will compete in Season 19 of Top Chef, which will be her next important career move.
When will Top Chef’s Season 19 debut?
Bravo will premiere the new season of Top Chef on Thursday, March 3 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time (ET). Tom Colicchio, Padma Lakshmi, and Gail Simmons, as well as a few celebrity chefs who will appear during the season, will be on the panel of judges.
The 15 contestants on the program will include Sam Kang, Evelyn Garcia, Buddha Lo, Jackson Kalb, Nick Wallace, Sarah Welch, Jae Jung, Stephanie Miller, Jo Chan, Ashleigh Shanti, Leia Gaccione, Monique Feybesse, Luke Kolpin, Robert Hernandez, and Damara Brown.
